<span style="font-family: inherit;">After much deliberation, I've decided to move my online space. I'll still be blogging and I'll still be around, but I won't be posting to this page anymore. <span style="color: orange;"><strong>THANK YOU</strong></span><strong><em>, </em></strong>really, truly, for all your comments, support, sharing all this stuff with me. :)</span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I must admit, I'm a little bit in love with Florian. He's turned out so well, and brought a most welcome smile to my girls' rather grumpy, post-school faces. (They have been waiting, not very patiently, for him to be finished). The shaping in the pattern is so well thought through and his gangly legs are just charming. As someone who loves a good granny square infront of Netflix, a bit of concentration to crochet the more fiddly of the details was definitely worth the effort!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
To make Florian, I used Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino in Silver for the legs, neck and head (approx. 25g), Clotted Cream for the beak (approx. 5g) and Black (approx. 30g). I used Rowan Super Fine Merino DK in Polar for the wing tips and tail (approx. 10g). I used a 3.5mm hook, instead of the 3mm suggested by the book, because I have found in the past that this creates the best tension for me when crocheting toys. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And of course, congratulations to Alison, who has won the copy of the book! Thanks so much to everyone who entered and left a comment. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I can't think of a plant in my garden that I don't love (dandelions included). I even picked a few ground elder blooms and brought them inside this year - the leaves are edible too, but I've never tried. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm going to try and propagate a few of them this weekend. We're moving soon (we don't have a date just yet...) and I don't want to leave them all behind, (although, as pretty as those ground elder flowers were I'm not tempted to take any part of them with us!). </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm not sure how successful my plant-making attempts will be. I'm no expert gardener, but I'm keen - I'll probably dig a bit it up, shove it in a pot and see what happens. Certainly a cutting of our climbing rose might work (I saw <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06bc3pt">Monty</a> doing this on telly the other day), and I've rooted the himalayan honeysuckle before just by leaving some stems in a bucket of water.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The virginia creeper, borrowed from a couple of gardens away, is a beast, and I'm not sure I want to be battling with it in our new space even though it's rampant crimson glory makes a brilliant backdrop for the japanese anenomes - I think I take <a href="http://mrsbrownmakes.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/a-touch-of-autumn-colour.html">that photo</a> every year! The anemones, and the sedums above, should be fine with my 'have-a-go' method - plants want to grow after all. I think a trip to the garden centre for a few supplies might be on the cards...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Have a lovely weekend xx </div>

Hello!! I'm so pleased to have a few minutes to pop back here and share this with you. The lovely people at <a href="http://www.thetoftalpacashop.co.uk/">Toft</a> sent me a PDF of Kerry Lord's new book, <strong>Edward's Menagerie: Birds</strong>, to review and I've got a proper, real, hold-in-your-hands copy to giveaway too.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-t4tZOC66OO4/VfPbYD0-xtI/AAAAAAAASAU/eJUrtppMlmA/s1600/Book.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="636" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-t4tZOC66OO4/VfPbYD0-xtI/AAAAAAAASAU/eJUrtppMlmA/s640/Book.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
There are sooooo many gorgeous patterns to choose from, knowing where to start and which to make first is a tricky business. My girls, of course were very willing to help me choose (and we've all got our favourites!), but rather than commit to making three at once for them, I've chosen one to make for me. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4g2PUKMuky4/VfPbZlvv_8I/AAAAAAAASAc/hW97TdD7cIo/s1600/Florian%2Bpage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4g2PUKMuky4/VfPbZlvv_8I/AAAAAAAASAc/hW97TdD7cIo/s640/Florian%2Bpage.jpg" width="638" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The gangly legs, fluffy tail and simple colour palette of Florian the Ostrich won me over in the end.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I don't crochet from patterns very often, so it's been quite liberating to follow someone else's instructions. With all the decision making already taken care of, you can sit back and crochet knowing that Kerry's patterns are going to leave you with a beautiful bird for all your efforts. I particularly love the attention to detail; knobbly knees, placement of wing, expression of eye. Everything is thought of to make sure that your bird has just as much character as those that have been photographed for the book.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I would have liked a little more help with regard to how much yarn each bird requires. The amount needed is a little vague, giving an approximate total weight of yarn for each size, rather then specifics for each bird. As most of the patterns involve more than one colour of yarn, it is difficult to judge how much of each you will need. Tricky if you'd like to use up something from your stash, but not a problem if you're happy to buy a little extra to make sure you have enough.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I love the photography and styling; it's a gorgeous book to look at and flick through. The way that each bird is a variation on a set of patterns is a great idea, and means that once you've mastered the techniques you'll be crocheting numerous Christmas presents in no time. The technical section is clear, well illustrated and full of helpful tips.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VHfpWcqN6Bs/VfPbbMYEEFI/AAAAAAAASAk/1-njCdBfvRk/s1600/Florian%2Bleg.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VHfpWcqN6Bs/VfPbbMYEEFI/AAAAAAAASAk/1-njCdBfvRk/s640/Florian%2Bleg.jpg" width="636" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For Florian, I'm using a mixture of Debbie Bliss and Rowan yarns, all DK weight, I matched the colours as best I could to those in the book. He's working up nicely and will certainly be finished in time for me to announce the winner of the competition....</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you'd like to win a copy of <strong>Edward's Menagerie: Birds</strong>, please leave me a comment below and make sure to include a way for me to contact you, should you win. The winner will be announced here on my blog, on Wed 23rd September. Good Luck! <br />

p.s. competition open worldwide, and as I'll be posting it to you I might include a few extra goodies too! </div>

I'm considering the colours to include in my next blanket. <a href="http://mrsbrownmakes.blogspot.co.uk/2015/04/commitment-and-tangled-yarn.html">A couple of swatches</a> done and an idea sketched out, I'm not keen on winging this one as I'm often tempted to do. I'd like the restriction of a plan, something I can pick up and crochet without having to make a decision on where to go next, something I can start with the end already in sight. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6WwuiIlQnJc/VUy0f0pTWUI/AAAAAAAAR_s/SPoVObWvD-Q/s1600/Paint%2Bbox.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6WwuiIlQnJc/VUy0f0pTWUI/AAAAAAAAR_s/SPoVObWvD-Q/s640/Paint%2Bbox.jpg" width="638" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Often, designers and bloggers have an instantly recognisable palate; the boundaries of their colour choices giving them away just as much as the freedom with which they choose. A vintage pastel palate, muted neutrals and natural hues, or a saturated rainbow of colour. I feel like I hop all over the place when choosing my own - often adding more to rectify unsatisfactory combinations (see my hexagon blanket dilemma <a href="http://mrsbrownmakes.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06/a-blanket-dilemma.html">here</a>!), and turning to the internet for inspiration, it's hard to know where to start! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I confess to succumbing to the easy pleasure of rainbows as often as the next person; finding comfort in their child-like regularity and nostalgia in their palate. A rainbow, although encompassing all colours and possibilities, also provides structure and gives order to what otherwise could become a chaotic jumble - a riot of colour is not what I'm after! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7Bu1_U_rTWA/VUyXIiSVL2I/AAAAAAAAR94/tKic78hJKXA/s1600/Rainbow%2BCrochet%2BFlowers%2BCollage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7Bu1_U_rTWA/VUyXIiSVL2I/AAAAAAAAR94/tKic78hJKXA/s640/Rainbow%2BCrochet%2BFlowers%2BCollage.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My idea for this new blanket started with some yarn - Rico Essentials Merino Aran, with a little Debbie Bliss Cashmerino too. After swatching however, I realised that the colours weren't tallying with the blanket I was thinking of and some adjustment was needed. So, I dumped it all out on my dining room table...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CNcO8c-gyjQ/VUyXMoFQCdI/AAAAAAAAR-Q/g_AIi6jt0jg/s1600/Yarn%2Bon%2Btable%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="638" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CNcO8c-gyjQ/VUyXMoFQCdI/AAAAAAAAR-Q/g_AIi6jt0jg/s640/Yarn%2Bon%2Btable%2B1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
...and started to impose order in the chaos, creating rainbows, and then taking them away.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-itU1clDO5bY/VUyXOC4OlpI/AAAAAAAAR-Y/Y6qAi8HQUVY/s1600/Yarn%2Bon%2Btable%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-itU1clDO5bY/VUyXOC4OlpI/AAAAAAAAR-Y/Y6qAi8HQUVY/s640/Yarn%2Bon%2Btable%2B2.jpg" width="638" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FtNWR91TYdM/VUyXP5sOn5I/AAAAAAAAR-g/YkQ1ycC5m7k/s1600/Yarn%2Bon%2Btable%2B3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="636" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FtNWR91TYdM/VUyXP5sOn5I/AAAAAAAAR-g/YkQ1ycC5m7k/s640/Yarn%2Bon%2Btable%2B3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fc0VSFw7Te0/VUyXSSnnpJI/AAAAAAAAR-w/aIDYpqtsC3s/s1600/Yarn%2Bon%2Btable%2B5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="638" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fc0VSFw7Te0/VUyXSSnnpJI/AAAAAAAAR-w/aIDYpqtsC3s/s640/Yarn%2Bon%2Btable%2B5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Pared down, I could now see where to add more colour, so I raided my stash, not for matching yarn, but for anything that would create the palate I needed. Steering away from the rainbow - the regularity of which often requires equal amounts of all colours to create balance, I started to play not only with the colour of yarn, but the amounts of each. Adding plenty of neutral white and even some graphic black.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VkqZzIazI5w/VUyXURoqU_I/AAAAAAAAR-4/_CFkuls7Vuk/s1600/Yarn%2Bon%2Btable%2B6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="636" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VkqZzIazI5w/VUyXURoqU_I/AAAAAAAAR-4/_CFkuls7Vuk/s640/Yarn%2Bon%2Btable%2B6.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-E11uJKnTD4I/VUyXVyI5ysI/AAAAAAAAR_A/dd5I-uLHLjM/s1600/Yarn%2Bon%2Btable%2B7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-E11uJKnTD4I/VUyXVyI5ysI/AAAAAAAAR_A/dd5I-uLHLjM/s640/Yarn%2Bon%2Btable%2B7.jpg" width="638" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Adding colours back in that I'd previously removed, no order, yet in an ordered way. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uSK0hd7W6p0/VUyXXKtgvLI/AAAAAAAAR_I/waKtpNEpx-I/s1600/Yarn%2Bon%2Btable%2B8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uSK0hd7W6p0/VUyXXKtgvLI/AAAAAAAAR_I/waKtpNEpx-I/s640/Yarn%2Bon%2Btable%2B8.jpg" width="638" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There are colours left over that I'm surprised I don't want to include, those that have previously been my favourite additions to other projects, and there are colours included of which only the tiniest scrap makes a difference and alters the overall colour scheme completely.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TbS-71ZDMvg/VUyXaGi2PZI/AAAAAAAAR_Y/rJG5WX-n65M/s1600/Yarn%2Bon%2Btable%2B10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="638" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TbS-71ZDMvg/VUyXaGi2PZI/AAAAAAAAR_Y/rJG5WX-n65M/s640/Yarn%2Bon%2Btable%2B10.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I can see the colour scheme for my blanket coming together nicely and I'll buy yarn to fill the shoes of those added from my stash as I need to. The rainbow is still there, providing balance and coherence, reminding me of projects I've completed before - maybe there is a coloured thread running through my work, a rainbow of my own? I suspect it is harder for me to see - have you discovered your rainbow yet I wonder? </div>

Yesterday, <a href="http://www.theminimalists.com/game/">this</a> popped up in my Facebook feed. Now, I must admit, I don't pay too much heed to things that announce themselves to me via Facebook, but a minimalist game? I was intrigued and I had a look. I've always felt minimalists to be another species; I feel comfy around stuff, I find clutter reassuring, and all those "just in case" things are there, well, just in case. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YFx9diBOlGE/VUZ55C7O0sI/AAAAAAAAR8o/AQ0E9v8j8KI/s1600/Spring%2BTwigs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YFx9diBOlGE/VUZ55C7O0sI/AAAAAAAAR8o/AQ0E9v8j8KI/s1600/Spring%2BTwigs.jpg" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Having said that, past attempts to have a tidy-up and sort out have tended to conclude with a single trip to the tip, job done, but the house looks no different. Surely we're not living in a 'Mary Poppin's bag' of a house (although I like the idea), out of which will come never ending streams of stuff?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm willing to test the theory, and this seems like a fun way to do it. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, this month, I will be getting rid of some things every day. Today is day 3, so I have recycled 3 things: 1. a small pile of magazines that I had put to one side "just in case" 2. The box and instructions for my old camera 3. A Christmas bauble craft kit.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I will not bore you with updates on my rubbish every day, but I will keep you updated. (If you follow me on <a href="http://instagram.com/mrsbrownmakes/">Instagram</a>, I probably will bore you, sorry)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So far I've noted that Sundays will need planning for as charity shops are not open and things need to be out of the house by midnight (which leaves only the recycling or rubbish bin - the latter of which I'm going to try and avoid if possible), and that finding 1, 2 or 3 things is not at all taxing - but I'm sure I won't be feeling as relaxed come the 23rd...</div>

I'm still trying to unpick the mess on my desk and turn it into a concrete idea for a project. It feels like a big thing, making plans for a new blanket and committing to design, but I think it's the right way to go. Commit to an idea, then do it. Yes?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-A-LgrYYYqYc/VT9T2a_3PyI/AAAAAAAAR6k/DUtl11YqJQg/s1600/Yarn%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-A-LgrYYYqYc/VT9T2a_3PyI/AAAAAAAAR6k/DUtl11YqJQg/s1600/Yarn%2B2.jpg" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It always starts with yarn... this is squishy, merino, aran weight yarn. Soft, warm, and quick to work up into a large project, good for blanket making. Not so good for the time of year maybe?! The colours though - perfect spring colours.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YzSvd9pzWwg/VT9TxRuv4GI/AAAAAAAAR6E/GSR7U60QtCw/s1600/Forget-me-nots%2Band%2BBergenia.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YzSvd9pzWwg/VT9TxRuv4GI/AAAAAAAAR6E/GSR7U60QtCw/s1600/Forget-me-nots%2Band%2BBergenia.jpg" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We always get a lovely mix of blue, pink and yellow in the garden at this time of year. Sturdy bergenias surrounded by self-sown forget-me-nots. More often than not a rogue dandelion or two pop up nearby, not wholly unwelcome, very cheery and great for the children to pick freely!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fnX8Ywn74ug/VT9T0PDNQrI/AAAAAAAAR6U/zqjgFnVOav8/s1600/Ponies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fnX8Ywn74ug/VT9T0PDNQrI/AAAAAAAAR6U/zqjgFnVOav8/s1600/Ponies.jpg" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Ponies too, enjoying the spring sunshine and an alfresco bath this week! A concession to my littlest desiring a dip in the paddling pool. Not yet, but soon I'm sure...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C1nHHJxIFo0/VT9TySU0rZI/AAAAAAAAR6M/rckZe4j6iF4/s1600/Ponies%2Band%2BEvelyn's%2BFeet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C1nHHJxIFo0/VT9TySU0rZI/AAAAAAAAR6M/rckZe4j6iF4/s1600/Ponies%2Band%2BEvelyn%27s%2BFeet.jpg" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Back to the blanket plans, I've been swatching...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UkdGDrclDK8/VT9TwpckmRI/AAAAAAAAR58/B-S0LeXbz0g/s1600/Chevron%2BBlanket%2BSample%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UkdGDrclDK8/VT9TwpckmRI/AAAAAAAAR58/B-S0LeXbz0g/s1600/Chevron%2BBlanket%2BSample%2B1.jpg" height="640" width="638" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Chevrons, zig-zags, ripples... in jewel-like colours. It's coming together, not fixed yet, but getting there. I might even tuck it away for a bit and mull it over, get on with a few summery bits and bobs in the meantime and wait for the right time. Not sure I'm ready to commit to this one just yet!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"> </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">I spent most of last week catching up with the post-holiday tidying, noticing that the party decorations from Martha's birthday (well over a month ago) are still up and trying to plan to make best use of that precious time when I have the house to myself.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"> </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">And we made a new reward chart (as I previously said about not very interesting photos....). I've a little bit of a crush on all thing monochrome at the moment (blamed completely on Instagram), so marker pen and white card is very satisfying.</span></div>

Hi, I hope you've all had a super Easter, and a good holiday. This is just a quick pit stop to tell you about my lovely new newsletter....</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I've been pondering a suitable way to keep you all up to date with news of my craft fairs, shop updates, that kind of thing, without filling up my blog with them - you might not want to hear about it after all! Hence I thought I could write a newsletter, it will involve a bit of shop talk, discount codes, a nice free crochet pattern and a bit of blog news too, what do you think? It's nice to get a friendly email every now and then, and you're welcome to reply too...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
To get the ball rolling, I'm running a competition. Sign up by midnight (GMT) on 13th April and you could win a £20 voucher to spend in my online shop, or at a craft fair if you come to see me in person. All subscribers will get a free pattern for this Happy Spring Chicken, I'll include it in my first newsletter, along with a discount code for my shop to say **Thank You!** for signing up and staying in touch.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The sign up form for my newsletter is at the top of the right sidebar..... up there.... and I'll pick the lucky winner on the 14th April.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Look forward to hearing from you xxxx</div>

Hi! I'm still here... </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My head has been full of craft fair plans and neglected laundry recently, so not much in the way of blog posts I'm afraid. The neglected laundry is tedious, and the craft fair plans, well interesting but constantly in flux and prone to crises of confidence. I will share all that with you soon.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Today however, I couldn't resist giving you a little peek at my stashbusting blanket...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DkvTfi7WyVU/VQ_kkq6sabI/AAAAAAAAR3I/AVSuV7mGH9Q/s1600/IMG_8728.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DkvTfi7WyVU/VQ_kkq6sabI/AAAAAAAAR3I/AVSuV7mGH9Q/s1600/IMG_8728.JPG" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm soooo pleased with it. Who knew I had all the yarn to make such a lovely thing hanging around in my house?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I've made 90 granny squares. I faffed and fussed over where to place them yesterday morning with a large mug of coffee, still in my PJs, with children and the cat tip-toeing around the edge.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nCvrv9Ym6aA/VQ_kcjUFS1I/AAAAAAAAR2o/4KAXzMXnDjA/s1600/IMG_8705.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nCvrv9Ym6aA/VQ_kcjUFS1I/AAAAAAAAR2o/4KAXzMXnDjA/s1600/IMG_8705.JPG" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It took a while, trying to make sure the colours were evenly spread out, no two the same next to each other, that kind of thing (the last one is always the hardest to place!). Lovely spring colours though, many of them rescued from this project <a href="http://mrsbrownmakes.blogspot.co.uk/2014/06/i-decided-to-frog-it.html">here</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5iGZO-RbBnY/VQ_kisYpy-I/AAAAAAAAR3A/m1a-URzNmOA/s1600/IMG_8717.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5iGZO-RbBnY/VQ_kisYpy-I/AAAAAAAAR3A/m1a-URzNmOA/s1600/IMG_8717.JPG" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Each row turned into a neat pile, and numbered so I remember where they go. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SSLeEOwB-KQ/VQ_kn3cxRdI/AAAAAAAAR3Y/daziG8JKvcw/s1600/IMG_8736.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SSLeEOwB-KQ/VQ_kn3cxRdI/AAAAAAAAR3Y/daziG8JKvcw/s1600/IMG_8736.JPG" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I was worried about joining them with navy. It happened that I had somehow collected lots of navy yarn, it needed using, this is a stashbusting blanket after all, but seeing all the colours spread out on the floor I was suddenly concerned that they might lose some of their zing surrounded by such a dark yarn. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I needn't have worried.... I love how the blanket is turning out, it's my favourite one to date I think. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mq3yTczHwqQ/VQ_kmS5k2_I/AAAAAAAAR3Q/j-Ga1Au67_E/s1600/IMG_8731.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mq3yTczHwqQ/VQ_kmS5k2_I/AAAAAAAAR3Q/j-Ga1Au67_E/s1600/IMG_8731.JPG" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you've been making any stashbusting projects I'd love to see - leave me a link in a the comments below and I'll come and have a look. </div>

...this is an ongoing process with three small (but growing fast!) children in the house. There is a constant tidying, sorting and re-organising of neglected toys and grown-out-of clothes. No sooner than one area is dealt with another starts to looks like the bins at the back of a toy shop. Add this to a small house and it's easy to feel like we're living in a wasteground for unloved, mass-produced, clutter.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We keep the local charity shops well stocked!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's easy to blame it all on the kids, however, with their brightly coloured nik naks being the most obvious of things filling the house; kids' stuff is always on view, under foot and in the way. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
But, I must confess to having a good amount of my own 'stuff' hanging about. It's just a little more tucked away - a high up shelf full of bags with untouched projects, a box of embroidery threads and sewing paraphernalia, jars of buttons, drawers of fabric and yarn, another bag down the side of the sofa, a box under the bed... you get the idea. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Time to turn my attention to my own clutter and bad habits. A bit of clearing out and ruthless decision making is in order and I've made a good start. I've ebayed a few things already (it helps when you get a few pennies for your old things) and at the weekend I pulled out a large bag of cotton yarn, wound all the balls up neatly and plonked them all on the table.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-S4cNlS_ab_c/VPWGUMiwziI/AAAAAAAAR0k/OdbEtEOMfF8/s1600/IMG_8537.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-S4cNlS_ab_c/VPWGUMiwziI/AAAAAAAAR0k/OdbEtEOMfF8/s1600/IMG_8537.JPG" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Honestly, it was a little overwhelming and I wasn't sure how to even start making a decision about what to keep and what should go.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I sorted it into yarn weight, dk and aran, then spent a lot of time looking at it, telling the children not to fiddle with it and left it on the table overnight! You really can't hurry these things...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-piX5QucHy4o/VPWGQkwLwiI/AAAAAAAAR0U/b8hDLJ48-O0/s1600/IMG_8547.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-piX5QucHy4o/VPWGQkwLwiI/AAAAAAAAR0U/b8hDLJ48-O0/s1600/IMG_8547.JPG" height="640" width="638" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Sunday morning, armed with fresh coffee, I realised the shiny cotton had to go - I don't like it and I won't use it. Similarly, there were some left over bits of finer than dk cotton, too fiddly, that could go too. The rest of the dk could stay, it's yarn I like and use, so I put it away in a drawer. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'd made a granny square with some of the aran weight cotton. Simple granny squares help me think, really they do, so I made a few...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1zbtcuH-sXo/VPWGVmpOCpI/AAAAAAAAR0s/Psb1358YFY8/s1600/IMG_8548.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1zbtcuH-sXo/VPWGVmpOCpI/AAAAAAAAR0s/Psb1358YFY8/s1600/IMG_8548.JPG" height="640" width="638" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The granny squares could be a cushion cover, I thought, joined and edged with the navy yarn. I carried on making squares. How many would I need for a cushion cover? Four? Nine, maybe? I looked at the yarn and started to organise the colours - bright granny squares with navy surrounding them. A blanket! I'm sure there's enough. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A bit of maths later, and there is enough. I'm not in need of a new project, I know, but in terms of decision making this has made it easier. The dk yarn is sorted and the aran yarn - I will keep what I need for this blanket and get rid of the rest. Ruthless! I'm ignoring the voice in my head telling me that I might need all that chocolate coloured cotton for a future project I haven't even thought of yet. I'd better do it quickly before I change my mind...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LCynMqsDCFs/VPWGSsGTvDI/AAAAAAAAR0c/lvTf072FdDA/s1600/IMG_8580.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LCynMqsDCFs/VPWGSsGTvDI/AAAAAAAAR0c/lvTf072FdDA/s1600/IMG_8580.JPG" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
There is more clearing and yarn sorting to come, I'm sure. I'll share how I worked out that I had enough for a blanket too - useful for a bit of stashbusting I think.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
xx</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
p.s. I'm planning a bit of blog tidying also - if you spot anything that isn't as it should be, please let me know! </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For the centres I used Rico Essentials Soft Merino Aran in shades:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Fuschia (15)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Lemon (63) this is in fact a slightly greenish shade</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Melon (06)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Dusky Pink (92)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Petrol (25)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
and Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran in Cowslip (64)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The body of each square is worked in the Rico yarn shade Cream (61) and each is edged, then joined, with Aubergine (10). Once joined, I finished the blanket with a picot edge in Lemon.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It was all lovely yarn to work with, and worked up satisfyingly quickly being aran weight. I think it helped that there were only 20 squares - it was done before I had a chance to get bored! It has made a very warm, squidgy and soft blanket indeed. Perfect time of year for a warm blanket too! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Oh, and in case you were wondering, it has gone to live with my new niece Maya. She's a peach.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

These things have been occupying me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xbLkhq_50NU/VNEOzNqDBKI/AAAAAAAARwc/v8aaCqx4PuU/s1600/IMG_8442.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xbLkhq_50NU/VNEOzNqDBKI/AAAAAAAARwc/v8aaCqx4PuU/s1600/IMG_8442.JPG" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
A finished blanket! It's cosy and lovely and woolly and blankety. It is also off to it's new home tomorrow, so once I've safely delivered it, I'll fill you in on a bit more info and some more photos - for now it is only fair that the new owner gets to see their new blanket first...<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Generally, I'm really crap at sticking to one thing and seeing it through (craft things, that is, I hope it doesn't apply to everything I do!). I get a bit bored, other projects look more interesting, etc., etc. Focussing on one project at a time seems, so far, to be helping. I've still a stack load of WIPs, but the next one I pick up won't be put down until it's done, and that's a satisfying feeling. Having finished one project already this year feels great, I'll definitely be doing more of it!<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A small caveat to this (and I kind of knew there would need to be at least one) is that I will be keeping a few bits and bobs to sell ticking over in the background. For fairs, when they arise, and to pop online too. <br />
</div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Wh87rd-r7Bg/VNEOqu3wUFI/AAAAAAAARv0/SB8ZF6DIOYM/s1600/IMG_8400.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Wh87rd-r7Bg/VNEOqu3wUFI/AAAAAAAARv0/SB8ZF6DIOYM/s1600/IMG_8400.JPG" height="640" width="638" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fq4Ilm3B55g/VNEO4_9QIaI/AAAAAAAARw8/NNwAMGozhWs/s1600/IMG_8434.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fq4Ilm3B55g/VNEO4_9QIaI/AAAAAAAARw8/NNwAMGozhWs/s1600/IMG_8434.JPG" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This stitching isn't for selling however. I was inspired by <a href="https://uk.pinterest.com/pin/473581717041234295/">this</a> on Pinterest and decided to use up some of my fabric scraps. Although I love my sewing machine, I quickly realised that it should be a hand-stitching kind of project really - a digging out some old threads on wooden reels and spending far too long trying to thread a too small needle kind of project. It's coming along, slowly. And it's a nice kind of slowly, that is often accompanied by a cup of tea on the sofa and some mindless telly. Just right for this time of year, I highly recommend it.</div>

The last couple of weeks have been busy and productive. I've made quite a lot of 'stuff' and I've enjoyed doing it. Were I to carry on at this rate, we would be swamped with soft furnishings and crocheted things. The dining room now looks like it has been overcome by a monsoon of craft supplies and the air is getting thinner at the top of the washing mountain. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So I've been taking photos of the things I've made with a view to them finding good homes elsewhere. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QzAAdqQ1qBw/VL1f5CayoBI/AAAAAAAARuY/MSTMGoF5C-8/s1600/Square%2BGranny%2BBlanket%2BBobble%2BEdge.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QzAAdqQ1qBw/VL1f5CayoBI/AAAAAAAARuY/MSTMGoF5C-8/s1600/Square%2BGranny%2BBlanket%2BBobble%2BEdge.JPG" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This may, or may not, happen. The process of redistributing things will involve craft fairs and an etsy shop, for the moment anyway. Both of these things, however, require decent photos - something I'm slowly getting better at achieving. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oeqKMNJmusA/VL1f7FjaYsI/AAAAAAAARug/jyF6QBdmsbE/s1600/Granny%2BSquare%2BBlanket%2BVintage%2BBooks.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oeqKMNJmusA/VL1f7FjaYsI/AAAAAAAARug/jyF6QBdmsbE/s1600/Granny%2BSquare%2BBlanket%2BVintage%2BBooks.JPG" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm no photographer (my Canon Ixus 140 is rarely off automatic), so I'm not going to attempt to write about how to take the perfect photo of some crochet, or any other lovely handmade thing. But there are a few rules I always follow...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MtoTZzk2tiQ/VL1geLrrzcI/AAAAAAAARvI/xxQON0jq7ZU/s1600/Crochet%2Bsquare%2Bblanket%2B.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MtoTZzk2tiQ/VL1geLrrzcI/AAAAAAAARvI/xxQON0jq7ZU/s1600/Crochet%2Bsquare%2Bblanket%2B.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Natural light, no flash and basic photo editing software (I use a free software called Picasa to crop, adjust brightness and contrast), and for the moment it suits me fine.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_tf0S-ZfJg8/VL1f_F-wuRI/AAAAAAAARuw/wTmWXgXPSqU/s1600/Crochet%2Bblanket%2Blichen%2Band%2Bmoss.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_tf0S-ZfJg8/VL1f_F-wuRI/AAAAAAAARuw/wTmWXgXPSqU/s1600/Crochet%2Bblanket%2Blichen%2Band%2Bmoss.JPG" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Of course, I have set my sights on something a bit fancier. Something that can cope with lower light levels, that can remove some of the frustration of endless short, grey winter days when getting a decent photo is nigh on impossible. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9RWjGqZD5wQ/VL1gAz3_sHI/AAAAAAAARu4/Ot2z0O2Xa8Q/s1600/Vintage%2Bfabric%2Bcushion%2Bbrick%2Bwall.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9RWjGqZD5wQ/VL1gAz3_sHI/AAAAAAAARu4/Ot2z0O2Xa8Q/s1600/Vintage%2Bfabric%2Bcushion%2Bbrick%2Bwall.JPG" height="640" width="638" /></a></div>
<br />
If I gather enough pennies in return for some of my handmade bits and bobs, then who knows, I may not be cursing the clouds quite as much next winter. <br />
<br />
So, this weekend I sought out some open space, some lovely props and backdrops (courtesy of my Mum and her partner's home and garden) and made the most of the winter sun by positioning, rearranging and generally faffing around (I'm particularly good at faffing - I do it with blog posts too!) with some of the things I made and taking LOTS of photos (if I take enough there's bound to be one or two that will do!). <br />
<br />
Now, I'm trying to put them to good use - a craft fair application has been done and my etsy shop (up there on the sidebar) is slowly being populated. <br />
<br />
All of this was much helped by the supply of a lovely moss and lichen covered bench, many hot drinks, a gorgeous red brick wall, my Mum following me around a freezing garden with bags of stuff, soup, a wonderful collection of old books, and an enthusiastic chicken called Wilma!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HuFO1OoQ0A4/VL1gIIdOnKI/AAAAAAAARvA/H_acXh9Dfug/s1600/Chicken%2Bcushion%2Band%2Bwilma.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HuFO1OoQ0A4/VL1gIIdOnKI/AAAAAAAARvA/H_acXh9Dfug/s1600/Chicken%2Bcushion%2Band%2Bwilma.JPG" height="640" width="638" /></a></div>

This week has felt busy, I've been making a lot (taking over the dining room in fact!) and we've definitely settled back into the school routine post-Christmas, with all the rushing around that this involves, but it's nice to overlook the tiredness and grumpiness (parents and children both!) and round up the week on a positive note.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Our littlest turned four on Sunday! A bittersweet moment perhaps, as with it comes the reminder that she'll be off to school come September, yet such a joy to watch them grow up and become more independent.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(Photo courtesy of my sister - thanks Jo!, I was busy in usual Mum role of lighting candles and delivering cake etc.)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I've also rediscovered my stash of fabric this week, and I'm trying to put it to good use by getting a some bits and bobs made and photographed for some craft fair applications. My sewing machine has been dusted off - I'd completely forgotten how much I love sewing...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
...making a cushion cover out of an old Clothkits kit and another out of some fabric that used to hang as a curtain in my Gran's utility room.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Hand stitching - I love the process and care involved, and the resulting neat (ish) rows of stitches are so pleasing.</div>

I hope you've had lots of positive moments in your week too - I'd love to hear about them...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm linking up with Penny's "Happy Friday" post over at <a href="http://planetpenny.co.uk/">Planet Penny</a>, and looking forward to settling down with a cup of tea later and reading through the rest of the happy posts. Not a bad way to end the week I think!</div>

I found <a href="http://lifeatmylittleredsuitcase.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/creating-new-habits-over-30-days.html">this post</a> from Heather at My Little Red Suitcase really inspiring. It can be hard to change bad habits, and goodness knows I have a few (not all of which I'm willing to change at the moment either!). </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
There are a lot of things I would like to do, with this blog, with my crochet maybe some sewing too, with all the bits and bobs I've been squirrelling away. Things I'd like to achieve this year. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm quite good at the planning bit, at making lists and knowing what I need to be doing. I just need to make a commitment to myself to show up and do it!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My lovely new notebook (I'm a new-notebook-aholic) and pencil was a present from my Mum, bought from <a href="http://www.ohsquirrel.co.uk/">Oh Squirrel</a> (not sponsored).</div>

This is **Plan Number One** for 2015.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ijMHx7WEAZ4/VK0-U_sWuZI/AAAAAAAARsE/1hdc_FEMJWA/s1600/IMG_7942.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ijMHx7WEAZ4/VK0-U_sWuZI/AAAAAAAARsE/1hdc_FEMJWA/s1600/IMG_7942.JPG" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm forever telling the children: "I can only do one thing at a time!". So, I think I need to listen to myself and stop trying to crochet several things at once too. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So far so good, seven days in and I have been concentrating all my efforts on one project. It's liberating, in a woolly kind of way. The nagging thoughts of other things that need finishing are a bit quieter and I'm enjoying the process of making something a bit more.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I know, it wasn't long ago that I declared myself a "<a href="http://mrsbrownmakes.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/im-multi-project-person.html">multi-project person</a>". On reflection (and reading that post back!) it was the start of realising that a bit of focus is not such bad thing and that maybe a bit more willpower could be exercised when a shiny new project catches my eye. So I will resist more, finish more and worry about it less.<br />
<br />
What happens when I get half-way through a project and decide I don't like it anymore? Or run out of a particular yarn? Or have a deadline crop up in the middle of another project? <br />
<br />
I'm not sure yet, no plan is entirely fool proof... I think I'll have to decide as I go along. <br />
<br />
Plan Number Two, coming soon.... <br />
<br />
xx<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Christmas was busy, but December as a month was hard and emotionally exhausting. In addition to all the usual holiday fuss, a family drama (that had been brewing for some time) erupted, the ripples of which seemed to spread and catch everyone close in it's wake. It still makes me sigh just thinking about it. I'd planned a few more festive treats for the blog, but a very foggy brain meant that I couldn't get them together. Then, going straight into Christmas, my birthday (Yes I'm a whole year older too - 35 for anyone who'd like to know!) and New Year, means that I'm only just catching the loose ends and dealing with them. To reassure those nearby, my girls, my husband and myself are all fine. I've always had a tense relationship with my father and recent events have seen this disintegrate completely. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So I've a bit of letting go to do. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The decorations are all down and packed away for another year, my lovely white hyacinths are fading and the light is changing, as it always does in January, showing up the dirt on the windows a little more than I'd like.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm going to try and bring the best of 2014 with me, it was only last week after all, and make some exciting plans for 2015. Most of all, I'd like to say *****THANK YOU ***** for being here with me for my first whole year of blogging, it's been a real treat.</div>

Truth be told, I've been thinking about this post for a few days. A little nervous about it even. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I wrote a <a href="http://mrsbrownmakes.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/2014-new-list-for-new-year.html">post</a> this time last year, a list in fact, of all the neglected projects cluttering my home (and my conscience). This list, along with my usual January zing gave me a mind to try and finish them... all! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
No, I haven't! Not even close I'm afraid, but not too disheartened either. I find the process of these things is useful in itself, and as such I feel better armed to make a few tough choices.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'll put these to one side for the moment however so as to enjoy a quick re-cap of the projects I did manage to finish, both new and old.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QqqZoZj6vGY/VKb6xhWV12I/AAAAAAAARqo/OE9-BQyekSE/s1600/2014%2Bround%2Bup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QqqZoZj6vGY/VKb6xhWV12I/AAAAAAAARqo/OE9-BQyekSE/s1600/2014%2Bround%2Bup.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Three brand new hats and some thrifty, upcycled old sock wristwarmers. I'm pleased to say that one year on the hats are still keeping small heads warm and I still love my wristwarmers - they've had far more use than the old socks ever did!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SH9aOS0a45M/VKb7IKH7CEI/AAAAAAAARq4/9RTuOCuZTcA/s1600/2014%2Bround%2Bup1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SH9aOS0a45M/VKb7IKH7CEI/AAAAAAAARq4/9RTuOCuZTcA/s1600/2014%2Bround%2Bup1.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Cotton hearts, mini baskets, a knitted bunny and Martha's lovely ripple blanket. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0EOvtEzon6w/VKb7Y3HL1YI/AAAAAAAARrI/vROJVox1UEE/s1600/2014%2Bround%2Bup2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0EOvtEzon6w/VKb7Y3HL1YI/AAAAAAAARrI/vROJVox1UEE/s1600/2014%2Bround%2Bup2.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Another finished blanket, a very cosy pom pom scarf (child size - I am still pondering a giant version for myself, but not sure whether I have the patience for that much knitty garter stitch), my granny hat and infinity scarf.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Of course, there was my Hettie blanket too...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-g8ZUBkSTv6o/VG3WvPCMvtI/AAAAAAAARhQ/gotl91aZtao/s1600/IMG_7385.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-g8ZUBkSTv6o/VG3WvPCMvtI/AAAAAAAARhQ/gotl91aZtao/s1600/IMG_7385.JPG" height="638" unselectable="on" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I enjoy this process of winding up one year and planning for the next, in fact I suspect I enjoy the planning a little more than the doing! I'll be back with a few plans soon...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
xx</div>

Christmas is slowly creeping into our household. The excitement is building and our youngest is insisting that there is only "one more day to go", most days. I still haven't ventured into the loft to find the tree, decorations or lights, but I have been trying to festive up my mood a little by making some decorations. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I've been making paper stars... having not ventured into the realms of origami before, it took Tobias' videoed instructions <a href="http://www.homemade-gifts-made-easy.com/5-pointed-origami-star.html">here</a> and a bit of child-free concentration for me to get the knack. You could make them with whatever paper you have to hand. I've been using envelopes, paper bags, fallen out pages of old books, music paper, some patterned paper from a craft magazine - it's amazing what you find lying about when you start to look. Every festive red envelope that plops through the door now has star potential!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4iP0khX5Ab8/VIdvNj8xPgI/AAAAAAAARoI/oh9zu1HFjFg/s1600/IMG_7634.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4iP0khX5Ab8/VIdvNj8xPgI/AAAAAAAARoI/oh9zu1HFjFg/s1600/IMG_7634.JPG" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The stars have been threaded onto some cotton yarn, tying each as I go to hold them in place. Lovely on their own, but even better for a bit of bling and sparkle I think...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9COpGOGdn5g/VIdvCC-tR-I/AAAAAAAARnI/q0pvLmGhHgc/s1600/IMG_7591.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9COpGOGdn5g/VIdvCC-tR-I/AAAAAAAARnI/q0pvLmGhHgc/s1600/IMG_7591.JPG" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The tassels are so easy to make.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
First find some sparkly yarn and some scissors, then cut two lengths (for tying) and lay them out next to each other but not too far apart.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NMgRct8eAHY/VIduuQ9Ws9I/AAAAAAAARl0/TFS7XiZ_uhM/s1600/IMG_7683.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NMgRct8eAHY/VIduuQ9Ws9I/AAAAAAAARl0/TFS7XiZ_uhM/s1600/IMG_7683.JPG" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(Yarn and coffee included for scale!)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Wrap the yarn around all the fingers on one of your hands about 15-20 times.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2_fN8WOdCl0/VIdux0US0fI/AAAAAAAARmE/DIjX8Gvajvo/s1600/IMG_7691.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2_fN8WOdCl0/VIdux0US0fI/AAAAAAAARmE/DIjX8Gvajvo/s1600/IMG_7691.JPG" height="640" width="638" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Carefully slide the yarn off your hand and lay over the two cut lengths. Tie each end.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vFZMXu7RPGw/VIduz3bIEJI/AAAAAAAARmM/cIuHvGOVa8I/s1600/IMG_7696.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vFZMXu7RPGw/VIduz3bIEJI/AAAAAAAARmM/cIuHvGOVa8I/s1600/IMG_7696.JPG" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LMMc0MxvfQY/VIdu3X7chfI/AAAAAAAARmc/mFGpnlHUWKI/s1600/IMG_7701.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LMMc0MxvfQY/VIdu3X7chfI/AAAAAAAARmc/mFGpnlHUWKI/s1600/IMG_7701.JPG" height="640" width="638" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Cut in the middle...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KQqtKzBeyVs/VIdu9fN8mMI/AAAAAAAARm0/mh0oZeFWtM8/s1600/IMG_7708.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KQqtKzBeyVs/VIdu9fN8mMI/AAAAAAAARm0/mh0oZeFWtM8/s1600/IMG_7708.JPG" height="640" width="638" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
...and tidy up any sticking out bits by either trimming them off or poking them back through the tassel with a darning needle. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qbJiTqN4Jv0/VIdvLN28DdI/AAAAAAAARn4/wyU0Auw2YxA/s1600/IMG_7621.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qbJiTqN4Jv0/VIdvLN28DdI/AAAAAAAARn4/wyU0Auw2YxA/s1600/IMG_7621.JPG" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As well as the tassels, I made few pom poms from some scraps of cotton I had collected and added them to my string of stars.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BNOBA95JUg0/VIdvVYhAa0I/AAAAAAAARow/GVSJ2IPmBqo/s1600/IMG_7642.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BNOBA95JUg0/VIdvVYhAa0I/AAAAAAAARow/GVSJ2IPmBqo/s1600/IMG_7642.JPG" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I fancy making a few giant stars too... I'm just wondering what the biggest piece of paper I can find might be... I'll let you know.</div>

As things gear up for Christmas, I find I need to clear out to make room for what is to come (obscene amounts of toys, generally). It would be nice if, come Boxing Day, all the stuff that will have arrived in the house the day before could be neatly filed straight into it's new home. If each new toy that is to become part of our household already had a place to belong, maybe we could avoid that awkward bit where the boxes and bags and pillowcases (stocking alternative in our house!) full of stuff are loitering about downstairs waiting to be allocated a little bit of space amongst our existing clutter.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm feeling the same about my crochet at the moment. I've been doing quite a lot, finishing a few things off, but itching to get on with a some festive tasks too; something to add a bit of sparkle and decoration to our otherwise drab and clutter-filled home. It's December, we are now well into the daily chocolate ritual that will last until the 25th and I'm being asked about the tree, lights, boxes of shiny things in the loft....</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Before I can do any of that, I need to tell you about this...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ycmuqnfqzZ0/VIGwSKPbXrI/AAAAAAAARj0/dbH2vi9VUN4/s1600/IMG_7533.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ycmuqnfqzZ0/VIGwSKPbXrI/AAAAAAAARj0/dbH2vi9VUN4/s1600/IMG_7533.JPG" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have finished a hat, for myself. A granny hat, in a granny stitch and it quite fittingly makes me look like a granny, albeit with a warm head!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SUhywVaFvis/VIGwK3stA4I/AAAAAAAARjM/y43YNHIXNpU/s1600/IMG_7515.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SUhywVaFvis/VIGwK3stA4I/AAAAAAAARjM/y43YNHIXNpU/s1600/IMG_7515.JPG" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's a grown up version of the ones I made for my girls, <a href="http://mrsbrownmakes.blogspot.co.uk/p/how-to-crochet-bobble-hat.html">here</a>. I'll write up the pattern separately and pop it over on the sidebar soon.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EYtoH0k9kRk/VIGwVYK9-4I/AAAAAAAARkE/2bDeLkp9djI/s1600/IMG_7555.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EYtoH0k9kRk/VIGwVYK9-4I/AAAAAAAARkE/2bDeLkp9djI/s1600/IMG_7555.JPG" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I made an infinity scarf (I think that's what it is! - I sewed the ends together to form a loop...) from my <a href="http://mrsbrownmakes.blogspot.co.uk/2014/09/august.html">conker coloured yarn</a> (Louisa Harding, 5mm hook). I fancy a wider and/or longer one in a different colour (probably grey), so when I do that I will make proper notes and write up the pattern.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wPOE2rlJ0dM/VIGwZFGYi6I/AAAAAAAARkU/ons7cxUZ21w/s1600/IMG_7562.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wPOE2rlJ0dM/VIGwZFGYi6I/AAAAAAAARkU/ons7cxUZ21w/s1600/IMG_7562.JPG" height="640" width="638" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-S83Anifd4rE/VIGwXF2U52I/AAAAAAAARkM/fOL9qYJIAos/s1600/IMG_7559.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-S83Anifd4rE/VIGwXF2U52I/AAAAAAAARkM/fOL9qYJIAos/s1600/IMG_7559.JPG" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
There are the usual woolly things pootling along in the background. I might get that sock finished before Christmas and Elspeth's blanket is one of those long term projects - I don't expect it will be finished any time soon...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rKvpguZS51Y/VIGwp1IVluI/AAAAAAAARlc/NkV8-hwFNns/s1600/IMG_7583.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rKvpguZS51Y/VIGwp1IVluI/AAAAAAAARlc/NkV8-hwFNns/s1600/IMG_7583.JPG" height="640" width="638" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now we're all caught up and my head is a bit clearer, I might go and find those lights....</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
xx</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

Meet Hettie...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-g8ZUBkSTv6o/VG3WvPCMvtI/AAAAAAAARhQ/gotl91aZtao/s1600/IMG_7385.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-g8ZUBkSTv6o/VG3WvPCMvtI/AAAAAAAARhQ/gotl91aZtao/s1600/IMG_7385.JPG" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
...my hexagon blanket.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2z2hH7aWpxo/VG3WxE7J1bI/AAAAAAAARhY/vG_zLZFutKA/s1600/IMG_7389.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2z2hH7aWpxo/VG3WxE7J1bI/AAAAAAAARhY/vG_zLZFutKA/s1600/IMG_7389.JPG" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Why Hettie? Well, it's much easier to type than 'hexagon camping/picnic blanket', and it sounds much nicer too! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I finished Hettie in the summer, she came camping with us then, and since has become a much loved part of the family. She lives mainly on the sofa, sometimes on the floor and occasionally draped over things to make a den.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Yesterday, she was slung over my garden fence, posing for photos... Sunny on one side of the garden, and not so much on the other...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YF1xzBUfY8E/VG3XA4-KpjI/AAAAAAAARiQ/pbPhMmVk1OI/s1600/IMG_7411.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YF1xzBUfY8E/VG3XA4-KpjI/AAAAAAAARiQ/pbPhMmVk1OI/s1600/IMG_7411.JPG" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you'd like to make your own hexagon blanket, here's how:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong>You will need:</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1 ball of Stylecraft Special DK in each of the following colours:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Saffron 1081</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Apricot 1026</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Aspen 1422</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Aster 1003</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Camel 1420</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Cloud Blue 1019</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Grape 1067</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Meadow 1065</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Plum 1061</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Raspberry 1023</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Pale Rose 1080</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Teal 1062</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Pomegranate 1083</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
4mm crochet hook</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Darning needle</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Scissors</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TURYQxB9hTM/VG3W333sXAI/AAAAAAAARhw/jv09HI_vWiI/s1600/IMG_7399.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TURYQxB9hTM/VG3W333sXAI/AAAAAAAARhw/jv09HI_vWiI/s1600/IMG_7399.JPG" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And how to do it? Well, I've put together some instructions... </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
To make the hexagons: <a href="http://mrsbrownmakes.blogspot.co.uk/p/granny-hexagon-tutorial.html">click here</a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
To join the hexagons together: <a href="http://mrsbrownmakes.blogspot.co.uk/p/join-as-you-go-hexagon.html">click here</a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
To make some half-hexagons: <a href="http://mrsbrownmakes.blogspot.co.uk/p/half-hexagon-tutorial.html">click here</a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
To join the half-hexagons: <a href="http://mrsbrownmakes.blogspot.co.uk/p/how-to-join-as-you-go-granny-hexagons.html">click here</a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Phew! A lot of instructions, but worth it and straight forward once you get going. I'll pop them in the sidebar too, so if you need to come back and find them all, that's where they'll be...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-l6eO73I7BFY/VG3W51gIIYI/AAAAAAAARh4/xjEBCEVf_MY/s1600/IMG_7402.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-l6eO73I7BFY/VG3W51gIIYI/AAAAAAAARh4/xjEBCEVf_MY/s1600/IMG_7402.JPG" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I haven't counted how many hexagons I've made in each colour - I'll leave that for you to decide. The edging is worked with whatever yarn is left over. I used up all 13 balls of yarn in the end, except 11g of the last colour! Very, very satisfying.<br />
<br />
All finished, the blanket is nearly square measuring 150cm one way and 155cm the other.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ha8sT9A8N18/VG3W76fDx9I/AAAAAAAARiA/qTBZ99hIAFE/s1600/IMG_7404.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ha8sT9A8N18/VG3W76fDx9I/AAAAAAAARiA/qTBZ99hIAFE/s1600/IMG_7404.JPG" height="638" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
How to crochet the edging? That will be part two...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FFB0_F_HxFM/VG3W-q0w7xI/AAAAAAAARiI/LbMQfAeh7_g/s1600/IMG_7407.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FFB0_F_HxFM/VG3W-q0w7xI/AAAAAAAARiI/LbMQfAeh7_g/s1600/IMG_7407.JPG" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I think all these hexagons should keep you busy enough for the moment!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>

Any troubles, get in touch... I can be found here, or over on my <a href="http://www.facebook.com/mrsbrownmakes">Facebook page</a>, most mornings with a fresh cup of tea.</div>
